Seasoned Rice
Prep time: 40 min
This Seasoned Rice will surely be your new
go-to rice recipe in no time! It
is a fast and easy side dish perfect for brightening up your meal. It really won’t take much of your time ‘coz it’s a one-pot
meal where you dump everything in the pot and wait for it to cook. And it can
be eaten on its own and goes pretty well with anything.
Plus, it requires very minimal effort to make and doesn’t cost as
much.
Ingredient:
-
1 cup of Long Grain White Rice (feel free to use another kind, just note that
the taste. texture, and cooking time will vary)
-
Warm water
-
1.5 tablespoons (Tbs) of Butter
-
2 Bay Leaf (these
are used for flavor and are taken out right before serving.)
-
2 Cloves (these are used for flavor and are taken out
right before serving)
-
Pinch of Salt
-
A very small amount of Grated Ginger (about a Quarter
of a teaspoon)
How to make it:
1- To soak: Add Rice to a
large mixing bowl and cover with twice the amount of lukewarm water. Soak uncovered at room
temperature for 30 min, once it done drain it and rinse it well.
(Soaking is optional,
but i recommend it)
2- Then Melt butter over medium heat in a medium pan. Add in Bay Leaf, Cloves, and Grated Ginger and give it a good stir.
3- Add the Rice and stir well to coat with the Seasoned
Butter.
4- Add lukewarm Water using the right ratio of water, and a large pinch of Salt.
(Add 2 parts water and 1
part rice to a large pot. For slightly firmer rice, use 1 part liquid to 2/3
parts rice)
5- Bring pan to a simmer then lower heat and cook, covered, 18 minutes, or until Rice is tender and Water is absorbed.
6- Remove from heat and let sit, covered, 5 minutes, remove Bay Leaves and Cloves, then fluff with a fork and serve.
Some tips:
-
Rinse the Rice is important to get rid of
the dusty starches that may make the rice too sticky. Just place your rice in a
fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear.
-
Cook without peeking or stirring, try not to
peek until the end of the cooking time so the steam doesn't escape. Whatever
you do, don't mix the rice while it's cooking — this will lead to gummy rice
-
Let the Rice rest covered, During this
time, the rice will steam for extra fluffy results
- Remember the ratio, Add 2 parts water and 1 part rice to a large pot. For slightly firmer rice, use 1 part liquid to 2/3 parts rice
ENJOY..!
